The music video to 'Hit The Lights' by Selena Gomez & The Scene is all about letting yourself go and having fun, living for today, . The song begins talking about how you shouldn't worry about the past and the mistakes you've made, you should think about the present and have fun, it also highlights the issue that you should take chances and go with your heart The music video represents this aspect of the lyrics and shows Selena Gomez (the artist) having fun and enjoying herself with her (we assume) friends.
The mise-en-scene is a treat in this video. There's a large variety of colour and action occuring throughout the video and it's interesting from start to finish. One of the beginning parts to the video features the video participants running through a field with huge green balloons (the baloons are very large to represent that they're having a large amount of fun, it is also unexplained how they have the large green balloons which also give an aspect of random things occuring when having fun etc.) this is very simple but it plays a big role in the video and looks extremely effective to the viewer. It also features people jumping around doing flips and other acrobatic moves, this is all corresponding to the music being played over this. The next part of the video is at night and torches are being shone everywhere to give a 'party in the street' idea. We see the artist singing the camera whilst all these lights are being manically waved around behind her. Towards the end of the video the artist and her friends enter a house with a lit up disco floor and begin the party in there. As well as revisiting the streets with torches and a room filled with pink balloons. There are many different locations and visual aspects because it suggests that you can go anywhere and do anything when having fun.
Similar to many videos in this genre of music, the edits for this video have extremely fast transitions this suggest the idea of having fun and enjoying yourself makes time go so quickly, corresponding with the saying 'time goes fast when you're having fun'. Towards the end of the video, shots from different locations tend to be jumbled up, this could suggest that people don't know what's going on when they're having so much fun, and potentially under the influence of alcohol.
There are various shots used in this video in terms of proximity. At some points close up shots, this is done to make the world seem very encolsed on the actors to suggest that the world around them doesn't matter. At other times there are long shots, this is not only to show the action occuring but also to symbolise the world judging them and being affect by what they're doing. This could be done to make the day occurring in the video seem all over the place, because it was so much fun and wild.
